OUR story
1970
THE JOURNEY OF THE PERFECT RIB
Back in the late 1970s, ribs were becoming an extremely popular item on restaurant menus, but sourcing and consistently preparing high-quality ribs remained a challenge. BRM was founded in1985 by Seymour Talpert and Johnny Candelaria to solve this challenge.
From a Dream to South Africa’s Favourite Ribs
The two passionate founders initially experimented in the back of a restaurant kitchen before opening a “factory” of just more that 60m² with a dream of making a great product. The ideal product had to be of exceptional quality, with not too much fat, but still full of flavour and marinated to perfection in a delicious sauce.

As BRM grew, the mission stayed the same. Better ingredients. Better processes. No cutting corners. By investing in our own facilities and refining every step of production, we ensured that every rib still tasted the way it was meant to. Slow-cooked, flame-finished, and coated in the sauce that made BRM famous. Today, BRM remains proudly South African, family-run, and obsessed with quality.
